Peking Paris 2013  Briefing Day

Sunday 2nd December 2012, from 9.15 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.
The Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire

All entrants on the 2013 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge are invited to attend the Briefing day at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire on Sunday 2nd December 2012. This is a great opportunity to meet the event organisers and your fellow competitors in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The Briefing day will start will coffee and registration at 9.15 and continue with various talks on every aspect of the event covering topics such as, car preparation, road conditions, travel notes, medical matters, vehicle insurance, visas, Carnet de Passage, equipment, camping and many more subjects that are sure to crop up. The route maps and photos from the recce trips will be displayed and this is a valuable chance to discuss any aspects of this challenging event. All the key staff working on the event will attend and be happy to take your questions and discuss any queries you may have.

We also plan a photo-call for the media and to record some pre-event film footage so please indicate if you are able to bring your Peking Vehicle to Gaydon.

An informal sit down lunch will be held at 12.30 p.m. and we re-convene at 2.30 p.m. We anticipate the day will close around 3.30 p.m. Attendance for all entrants is free of charge but as we have to confirm the numbers for the catering and we are limited to 230 guests in the lecture Hall, we do ask that you confirm attendance plus your full names for the identity badges that will be provided. Please note that you may bring non competing guests such as your car preparer or friends and families, providing there is sufficient room, but there is a charge of £40.00 per person to cover the catering and administration charges. Please note, this is the only briefing day that will be held prior to the event, so please make every effort to attend.

We will issue a location map and a list of accommodation convenient to the Heritage centre in due course.

Peking to Paris 2013   Training Days

Sunday 4th March 2012 and Saturday 1st December 2012

We are holding two training days to give entrants on the 2013 Peking to Paris a chance to practice their route finding and GPS skills. This is an ideal opportunity to meet up with the organisers and your fellow competitors and brush up your rallying skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The emphasis is on learning so you can bring any car you like, don’t worry if your Peking Vehicle is not ready, a hired car or the family shopper is perfectly OK as long as it has your Garmin GPS inside!

The training days start at 9.15am with a classroom session briefly covering a variety of topics - final vehicle and personal preparation, timing and time controls, GPS and Route finding. This is followed by a 30 mile rally route around the lanes where all the theory is put into practice as you book into time controls, navigate the correct route and develop team work between the driver and navigator. When you return there will be a sit down lunch followed by a de-brief and an opportunity to ask questions and sort out any queries. The day should close at about 3 pm. We are limited to 50 cars per training day so please book early! If you are going to make mistakes…..and we all do….now is the time to make them – in the rural surroundings of Oxfordshire, rather than the remoteness of Mongolia.

The dates are Sunday 4th March 2012 & Saturday 1st December 2012 (which incidentally is the day before the main Peking Briefing at the Heritage Centre in Gaydon). This is to help our overseas entrants, making it worth while for them to fly to the UK. Both training days will be held at Milton Hill Training Centre, Steventon, Oxford, OX13 6AF which is just off the A34 and convenient for the M40 and M4. It also offers overnight accommodation. The cost is £50.00 per person, £100.00 per crew per day. This covers the paperwork, marshalling, administration, welcome tea/coffee and lunch.

You need to bring your Garmin GPS Unit, (make & model to be advised in due course) a pen and a clipboard with you.
